Letter from the Chair of Governors

I am delighted to be able to introduce St Augustine’s school to you. We are a small Church of England School where each child is cherished and valued. As a school we have a vision to be a community that will maximize “each child’s potential through a creative, child-centred, integrated, balanced and broad curriculum producing healthy, happy, and polite children who embrace Christian values”.

St Augustine’s is a well-respected and successful school with an impressive track record of results, taught in a caring, Christian, family atmosphere. We have excellent adult to child ratios with all numeracy and literacy lessons supported by a Teaching Assistant alongside the Teacher. Whilst some schools focus on their SATs results, we choose to emphasize the value added figures. These are a measurement of how much each child has improved from the end of Key Stage 1 to the end of Key Stage 2. They offer the clearest indication of the impact that the school has made upon each individual child. For the academic year 2008⁄2009 our school value added placed it in the top 5% of schools nationally. Our value added figures have been in the top 10% nationally for the last four years.

We are privileged to have wonderful school buildings and grounds, close to ancient woodlands and open countryside. We are continually working to improve the school facilities available for the children. Recently we have introduced interactive whiteboards, restocked the school library and enhanced the playground. We have also introduced specialist PE teaching including dance into the curriculum, which has been well received by both boys and girls and has added a new dimension to school performances. The school has also been awarded a Bishop’s Commendation for the way in which global perspectives are brought into the classroom, meaning that we are considered to be an outstanding Church of England School.

Finally, in no small, way the success of St Augustine’s in built upon the partnerships that are built with parents. Together with you we are seeking to build a school where children can flourish and achieve their full potential.

With all good wishes

Mark Payne

The Revd Canon Mark Payne, Chair of Governors
